HOW IT ALL BEGAN…
2021 I was minding my own business and on the court next to me was a junior playing with a racket I’ve never seen before. I went up to his dad, Steve, and asked him about the racket.
He said, “Give me your favorite racket and I’ll bring one back for you that you’ll love even more. I asked, “How much?” He replied, “First one is on me…” I was like what can I possibly lose here.
I gave him my Yonnex DR-98 that I loved the most. I had 2 but this one always felt better. At the time I didn’t know much about rackets.
THE VOLLEY JUST POPPED OFF THE RACKET!
I waited 3 weeks and finally got to new racket came in. Steve handed me the racket and said it was a company he was investing in, Zus Tennis, and they make custom rackets.
I was intrigued and played with the racket for the first time that week. I still remember hitting this volley that just popped of my racket. Even my opponent was like “What was that?…” I was intrigued. So I scheduled a call with the founder and designer Sven Goth to discuss the rackets.
THE GOAL IS TO HELP TENNIS PLAYERS
I SPOKE WITH THE DESIGNER AND FOUNDER SVEN GOTH…
and he explained to me that his goal with the rackets was to design a racket that helped players by using the best quality material and designing rackets that were so stable that a player could loosen up.
He told me how he worked at Bosworth and customized rackets for Pete Sampras, Monica Selles, and many more players in the 90’s. He told me that during his tenor at Bosworth they would customize rackets and then black them out.
Then they would invite recreational players and put the blacked out customized rackets next to their off the rack versions that were blacked out. In every case, the players always chose the customized rackets.
I SAW HOW THE RACKETS POSITIVELY IMPACTED MY CLIENTS
I loved the story of Zus, I loved their mission, and I loved the rackets. I told Sven that I would join the team. I bought a variety of demos and began to share the rackets with my clients at East Bank Club.
From 2021 to 2024 I put the rackets in players hands and I started to see the impact they began having on players. The rackets were so stable that players began loosening up and began to hit better. My clients began hitting cleaner. I had clients who leveled up quickly. And even had one, Jen, who’s wrist problems went away. I became a believer in Zus Tennis and the rackets.
In that short span of 2 and half years over 200 players converted to the Zus rackets at the club.
PLAY BETTER…
The rackets have been designed with carbon fiber and a foam throughout the whole racket therefore creating a stable environment. What does that mean?
You will be able to handle the heavier balls. I can attest that because when I played heavy hitters all of a sudden I felt that the racket was doing more work for me.
Carbon Fiber is the strongest material and the lightest material that racket makers can use, and it’s not the cheapest. That’s what planes are made of. This allows the Zus rackets to have more layers helping the rackets last longer.
The foam core absorbs more of the impact of the balls and makes the racket more stable. So if you hit the ball off center it’s going to feel more like you hit in the sweet spot. When the racket is more stable at impact than we can loosen up. When we loosen up, we actually get more power, our strokes get better, and it’s less likely we will get injured. Just think about the last time you played great, did you feel lose or did you feel tight? My guess is that you were loose!

Each racket is finished by a technician so you can be confident that every racket in your bag is exactly to spec. Why does that matter? Imagine you’re in a close match and it’s the third set. You’re serving for the match and your string breaks. You pick up your back up racket and don’t even think about it. You close out the match.

All this stability on the racket creates a bigger sweet spot. Now your shots that are slightly off center will feel like you hit the sweet spot. With the bigger sweet spot get more control, and more power.

Sem Verbeek and John Patrick Smith have been making waves in doubles.
Both Sem and J.P. use the CUSTOM 62ra 100 sq inch frames. Speced to their liking both players recently had great success at the 2025 Australian Open.
